Mike Tyson set for his own Last Dance Netflix documentary following Jake Paul fight

Tyson’s manager lauded the 58-year-old’s star power and claimed that he “looks invincible.”

Iron Mike is set to receive his own Last Dance-style documentary which will follow him right up until his next fight against Jake Paul on Friday, according to his manager, Andrew Ruf.

Speaking to The Sun, Ruf revealed that Tyson has plenty of non-boxing opportunities available to him should he decide to finally hang up his gloves once and for all. Among those opportunities is a Netflix documentary similar to The Last Dance, which chronicled Michael Jordan’s career along with behind-the-scenes footage of the 1990s Chicago Bulls.

Release in April 2020 by the streaming giant, the miniseries received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and fans and has since become the golden standard for all modern sports documentaries to follow.

Ruf revealed that Netflix are making a similar documentary about Tyson, which will follow his historic career through all of its highs and lows and also feature current training footage.

Tyson is also said to be working on a show set in the 1920s similar to that of Boardwalk Empire, with Tyson impressing the producers with his knowledge of history and politics set around that time.

Ruf said: “I had him on with the two very talented showrunners nominated for an Academy Award, and they were pitching him the show.

“It was like watching a master class light up when Mike started talking about the history, characters, and politics.

“Mike ended up giving all of us the lecture on what New York was like at the turn of the century.”

Tyson’s venture into the world of TV and film was more than likely sparked by his cameo in 2009’s The Hangover, which won a Golden Globe in 2010.

Ruf added: “I’ve been honoured to be a part of seeing Mike’s resurgence, redefinition, and what he’s been able to do on the business venture side.”

Friday’s bout against YouTuber Jake Paul will be Tyson’s first professional fight in 19 years. Despite concerns over the former world heavyweight’s age and health, Ruf said that Tyson is as hungry as ever to remain competing.

He said: “I thought it would be one and done.

“But I’ve learned not to put limitations on Mike Tyson. He has very little to prove, but he wants to keep competing at a high level.”

Tyson’s manager was in awe of the all-round star that the boxer has become.

Ruf added: Mike Tyson is in a category of one as a performer, as an athlete.

“I think what’s incredible about him is not just his star power or the fact that he’s 58 years old and looks invincible.

“His story – the rise of Mike Tyson, the fall of Mike Tyson, and his persistence as a human being- define him. That’s why people are so drawn to him.”
