Michael Conlan woke up this morning, for the first time, as a world champion.
The Irish fighter claimed gold in World Boxing Championships on Wednesday afternoon after beating Murodjon Akhmadaliev from Uzbekistan on a points decision.
Following the bout, the Belfast native declared, “You can call me the Conor McGregor of boxing – I predict everything I do and I’m coming through successful.”
Conlan celebrated his world championship in Doha, last night, but was quickly on Twitter, this morning, to thank some of the people that got him there.
The raucous support provided by the travelling Irish fans, which included a plethora from men and women that play GAA out in Qatar, was not forgotten.
World Champion, that sounds good 😆 thanks to everyone who has supported me from the start and right up to this point! Unreal amount of.. 1/3
