Michael Conlan sums up why so many feel Conor McGregor might actually beat Floyd Mayweather

Plenty will agree with this

Michael Conlan’s not ruling out the possibility of Conor McGregor achieving the impossible against Floyd Mayweather, and he’s not the only one.

Everything that we think we know about combat sports points towards only one outcome of the Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor boxing match on August 26. If Mayweather completely outclasses

If Mayweather completely outclasses the debutant inside the ring, the general reaction will almost definitely be, ‘oh yeah, of course, that was going to happen.” However, right now, some people are finding it very difficult to shush that tiny voice in the back of their head saying, ‘what if…’.

Many people felt McGregor had no chance of beating Jose Aldo. He rendered the Brazilian legend unconscious in 13 seconds. Plenty of folks were forced to eat their words when he exacted revenge upon Nate Diaz in their welterweight do-over. Then he absolutely annihilated Eddie Alvarez, the man whose hard-nosed wrestler-boxer style was supposed to be McGregor’s kryptonite.

Mayweather’s on another level, and boxing is a completely different ball game, but it’s difficult to forget all those times he proved the doubters wrong.

McGregor has entered into every single challenge believing he will emerge victorious, no matter how daunting it was. Everything we’ve heard from his team prior to the Mayweather showdown signifies that this one is no different.

It’s this unrivalled self-belief that has Michael Conlan believing McGregor could score his biggest upset ever against ‘Money,’  as he explained to Fight Hub TV.

“He’s got ability. He’s definitely got ability. Conor’s the type of guy who believes in himself 100 million per cent and Floyd Mayweather’s the guy who’s been impossible to beat.”

“No matter who it is, no matter what sport it is, if someone believes in himself that much, there’s always a possibility. There’s always a chance.”

When you’re dealing with a calculated character like McGregor, it feels a little greater than just a puncher’s chance. We’ve heard so much about this master plan the SBG boys have developed specifically for Mayweather and we can’t wait to find out what it is on fight night.
