Work hard play hard.
Michael Conlan boxes in the featherweight division, which means he is constantly watching what he eats, and keeping an eye on the scales in order to ensure that he falls within the 54kg – 57kg limit of the featheweight division.
It must be a tough existence, the life of a boxer, having to be always pushing the boundaries of healthiness in order to meet weigh-in demands and targets.
We saw Conor McGregor drop all the weigh down to 153lbs to meet his weight target for the Floyd Mayweather bout, which caused him to look a little drained and dehydrated as he mounted the scales.
Just 24 hours later, McGregor looked back to himself, and was reportedly 17lbs heavier by the time he took to the ring for the ‘money fight.’
This shows the fluctuation and inconsistency of lifestyle habits that boxers have to endure in order to make it to the ring.
During his amateur days, Conlan fought at the bantamweight level, which is between 52.2 and 53.5 kgs, so the Belfast man is well accustomed to having to meet these stringent demands.
It does mean, however, that when these lads get an opportunity to let their hair down and enjoy themselves, just like Conlan did when he levelled Kenny Guzman to make it four wins from four professional fights on Friday, they generally do.

The Belfast native was in swashbuckling form in the ring, as he thoroughly outclassed his Montana based opponent, and he was celebrating his victory with a feed of divine proportions.
Conlan was tucking into what looks a double cheese burger and taco chips meal and boy was he enjoying it. “It’s time,” said he as if he was anticipating it for quite a while.
Conlan had done the hard yards, he came out on top and he was rewarding himself. It’s great to see.
The 25-year-old was already looking forward to his next outing, which he confirmed for December 9th in Madison Square Gardens, New York.
The preparation and hard work ahead of that fight have probably already began today.
