Martin Scorsese’s new Mike Tyson biopic sounds extremely promising

Another Raging Bull?

Regardless of your thoughts on Mike Tyson, the new movie about his life story promises to be pretty damn great.

Jamie Foxx, who will be starring as Iron Mike, revealed that Martin Scorsese has signed on to direct. This means it will mark the director’s first boxing film since the multi-Oscar winning Raging Bull in 1980, which centred around the life of controversial middleweight champion Jake LaMotta.

He also announced that Terrence Winter, the writer of HBO’s smash hit drama Boardwalk Empire will be working on the screenplay.

I just went in with Paramount with Mike Tyson. So I’m going to do the Mike Tyson story.

Listen, to be in the same room pitching Mike Tyson to Paramount, Mike Tyson is on one side, I’m on the other side doing Mike Tyson at the same time. And Martin Scorsese at the helm. This will be the first boxing movie that Martin Scorsese has done since Raging Bull.

Here’s hoping it will be a lot better than Foxx’s last cinematic release, the incredibly woeful remake of Annie.
