Manny Pacquiao says “pray for Nike” as fans go on burning spree

It’s all going on.

The war between Manny Pacquiao and Nike rumbles on but the Filipino boxer is taking the high ground. Today.

After Nike took a stand for the LGBT community rights and terminated Pacquiao’s contract with them when he said that animals were better than homosexuals, it hasn’t died down.

On Friday, the eight-division world champion took to his Instagram page to post a relevant bible verse which called for the death of gay people. The post has since been deleted but it quoted Leviticus 20:13 from the Old Testament and read:

“Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable … If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”

Then, footage emerged of some of Pacquiao’s fans burning Nike apparel.

But the Philippines politician has since responded and class is the order of the day – on Monday anyway. Quoted in Boxing Scene, Pacquiao urged his supporters not to be hating on Nike. Instead, love them.

“Many have burned Nike (shoes). As I’ve said, ‘you should not hold grudges. Instead, pray for them,'” he said.

“Do not hold anger in your heart. Instead, as a Christian, you should love them.”
