Manny Pacquiao apologises for offensive comments opposing gay marriage

Sorry is not the hardest word

Kevin McGillicuddy

As a keen student of the bible Manny Macquiao should know all about forgiveness.

The boxer found himself in the middle of a pretty shocking storm of controversy earlier today when the Philipino was interviewed about his views on homosexuality and gay marriage.

The 37-year-old boxing legend caused a meltdown on social media when he compared gay people to animals and highlighted his strong objection to gay marriage.

“It’s common sense. Do you see animals mating with the same sex? Animals are better because they can distinguish male from female,”

“If men mate with men and women mate with women they are worse than animals.”

The backlash began quickly but you suspect someone has had a word with him, leading to a pretty swift apology.

Hard to get the toothpaste back in the tube however, and plenty of people will struggle to forgive or forget.
