Kurt Walker has won the bantamweight gold medal after a unanimous decision win over Mykolo Butsenko on Sunday.
The Lisburn native is the first Irish boxer at the 2019 European Games in Minsk to win gold after Kellie Harrington withdrew from her respective gold medal fight with a thumb injury.
Walker won the gold after defeating number one seed Peter McGrail on points while he then beat the number two seeded Butsenko to claim top honours.
It’s a sensational time for Walker who claimed silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia last year.
Walker caps off a strong tournament for the Irish team with Regan Buckley and Grainne Walsh claiming bronze medals while Michaela Walsh and Harrington both claimed silver medals.
