There shouldn’t be any more doubts about whether it was the right decision.
Kell Brook has backed the decision of his trainer to throw in the towel in the fifth round of the British boxer’s bout against the formidable Gennady Golovkin on Saturday night.
Dominic Ingle called a halt to the middleweight title fight after Brook sustained heavy damage to his right eye. It was later confirmed that the 30-year-old had suffered a broken eye socket, and will undergo surgery on Monday.

Until the fifth round, the fight had been closer than many had expected beforehand. However, Golovkin was too powerful for his British opponent, and left Brook with blurred vision following a series of shots in the second round.
The Sheffield fighter backed the decision of his corner to stop the fight, and vowed to come back stronger from the first defeat of his career.
“I came back after the second round and said ‘I can’t see out of the right eye, Dominic’,” Brook told Sky Sports.
“I was talking to him, and he knows me, he saw me growing up as a kid. He’s like a father figure. It was the right decision and I can fight another day. I was getting caught, and getting caught. It could have ended up seriously bad.
“As much as the loss has been gutting and upsetting, I’m excited and happy the fans have seen a great battle against a great fighter, a throwback fighter.
“I’m looking forward to getting straight back in the top boys. I’ve had a taste of this magnitude of fight and I want this again. I’ll be back and I’ll be twice as strong and twice as fast.”
