The rematch has been postponed.

Katie Taylor’s fight with Amanda Serrano is off, due to an injury picked up by her opponent, according to Matchroom Boxing.

The organisation said “due to an injury sustained by Amanda Serrano, Matchroom Boxing and Most Valuable Promotions regret to announce that the Taylor-Serrano II bout on May 20th in Dublin will not go ahead as planned.

“The teams are in discussions about finding a revised date for the bout. Further details will follow in due course”.

The fight has already caused controversy due to the debate over it’s proposed location, following their first fight in Maddison Square Garden last year.

Matchroom boxing promotor Eddie Hearn had claimed that it would be taking part in Croke Park and would be celebrated as a big homecoming event for Taylor, who has yet to fight in Ireland as a professional fighter.

However, after negations with the stadium broke down due to a disagreement over it’s cost, and it appeared set that the fight would take place in the 3Arena.

It is not yet confirmed whether Taylor will wait for Serrano to recover from her injury, or if she will find another opponent.

The first fight was won by the Bray native on a split decision, although those in Serrano’s camp believe that their fighter should have been declared the victor.

Jake Paul, who recently lost his fight against Tommy Fury, is also Serrano’s promotor and owner of MVP, so would have played a crucial part in making this fight happen.

With the first bout being so close, the interest for a rematch was there for everyone, and the idea of Taylor returning to Ireland made it all the more special.
