Katie Taylor has been voted the SportsJOE Sports Personality of the Year

Congratulations from the whole SportsJOE team

Darragh Murphy

After over a month of deliberation, narrowing down from thirty to three, one sportsperson stands alone as our Sports Personality of the Year as voted by you.

The first round of voting should have given us an indication of the popularity of the Bray boxer who topped the poll, closely followed by Conor McGregor and then Rory McIlroy.

And after narrowing down the choices to those three, Katie Taylor stormed to victory coming in with 45.49% of the vote, beating out “The Notorious” who received 31.86% and the Down golfer with 22.65%.

Taylor is undeniably deserving of the honour, after steamrolling her way to a fifth consecutive world title by defeating Yana Allekseevna at the 2014 World Championships in South Korea.

The 28-year-old Olympic champion has cemented herself as one of the most dominant sportspeople in Irish history after growing to near-untouchable status in the lightweight division.

The November win put the Bray boxer on 17 major titles – one Olympic, five World, six European and five European Union.

We salute you Katie!
