Dennis Hogan may have to wait a while for another shot at the WBO light middleweight title with Jaime Munguia linked to bouts with both Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.
Munguia defeated Hogan in a controversial majority decision win with the Kildare native and his team then appealing against the judges’ decision to get the fight re-scored.
Five independent judges appointed by the WBO re-scored the contest a draw. One judge gave Munguia the win, one official scored the contest for Hogan while the other three judges scored the contest a draw.
However, the WBO ruled that on the independent judges’ scorecards Munguia won seven rounds compared to five for Hogan.
The organisation used a weighed scoring system where account is taken on how many of the judges favoured a specific boxer in a specific round. Essentially, three of the five judges have to agree to determine which fighter won the round.
Hogan and his team lost their appeal but released a video where it shows the fighter, coaches and promoters all assuring the Irish man and his camp that there would be a rematch.

We had hoped that Team Munguia had some morals and self respect left but that doesn’t seem to be the case. “We never offered @dennis_h_hogan a rematch” 🤔 Thanks to our man with a plan @peterkahn who has been working his ass of to get Dennis another shot https://t.co/3z5Q26V6Fi

It now appears that Munguia could fight Golovkin if he does not reach an agreement with Canelo Alvarez.
Sources tell @TheAthleticBOX Jaime Munguia is a possibility to fight GGG this fall if Canelo Alvarez indeed fights Sergey Kovalev, especially if Canelo-Kovalev doesn’t land in September. In that scenario, would ensure DAZN has Mexican Independence Weekend fight with GGG-Munguia

Hogan could get a title shot if Munguia moves up in weight and relinquishes his title at light middleweight with Hogan having a strong case for a shot at the vacant title.
