Ireland’s most successful boxer has been added to Andy Lee’s Thomond Park undercard

Taylor-made event for Katie

Katie Taylor has been added to the undercard of Andy Lee’s world championship defence against Billy Joe Saunders at Thomond Park.

Taylor will square off against an opponent who will be confirmed on the night over four, two-minute rounds in the home of Munster rugby on September 19.

This bout will help Taylor in her preparations for February’s AIBA World Elite Women’s Championships and Olympic qualifiers in Kazakhstan. The five-time AIBA World Elite champion will be aiming for her sixth successive title on the road to the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Lee defends his WBO World middleweight title against Saunders in the main event. The challenger received a lot of backlash last week for a sexist rant which was uploaded to YouTube.

“I think women are there for sex every night, hard sex. Women are there for cleaning, cooking, washing and sex. They’re not there to put headgear on and get punched in the face.”

“Although I must say that Katie Taylor’s done extremely well and she once punched Frankie Gavin up in sparring. I remember him saying that.

“Listen, all jokes aside. That’s just my opinion on women. I’m just a sex maniac.”

Taylor’s addition adds an interesting sub-plot to the card after Saunders’ sexist comments.
