All Blacks star Sonny Bill Williams warmed up for the new Super Rugby season by maintaining his unbeaten record in professional boxing
The World Cup winner, who has also starred in Australia’s NRL [rugby league], is now 7-0 [three KOs] after a convincing heavyweight win [on points] over Chauncy Melliver, in Sydney.
American boxer Melliver weighed in at 135kg, some 30kg heavier than Williams. His proud honour of never being knocked out in 70 professional bouts was maintained.
Williams, who sauntered to the ring in a Chiefs singlet, will now turn his sporting attention to the upcoming Super Rugby season and, later this year, winning a place in Steve Hansen’s New Zealand team. Chiefs teammate Liam Messam was also on the card and recorded a win over Rhys Sullivan.
While SBW remains undefeated as a boxer, most of the Twitter reaction was to his opponent’s girthy demeanour.
No wonder Sonny Bill Williams is undefeated in boxing if this is the shape of his opponents pic.twitter.com/ZYO6BWP2DN
