For many it’s the most hotly anticipated fight in boxing, but it’s still some way from being confirmed.
Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez took care of Amir Khan with a devastating knockout at the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday, and fans from across the globe are calling for the Mexican’s next fight to be against big-hitting Kazakh Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin.
GGG’s victory over Dominic Wade in April extended his career record to 35-0, with his last seven victories coming by way of knockout.
And the 34-year-old has reiterated that he wants to prove himself against Canelo in a fight that would give him a chance to claim the unofficial title of pound-for-pound best in the world, as well as his younger rival’s multiple belts.

Responding to a Twitter poll from ESPN boxing writer Dan Rafael, Golovkin described the mooted bout as an opportunity to ‘give the fans what they want’.
He’d said before the Khan-Canelo fight that it didn’t matter who won, he just wanted his shot at a belt, and promoter Tom Loeffler has been vocal about a GGG-Canelo match-up, perhaps before the end of this year.
We’re still waiting for the next development, but there’s certainly an appetite for two of the sport’s most exciting figures to come together in the ring at long last.
Yep, @GGGBoxing wants to fight @Canelo.
And we want it too.https://t.co/7zdsW9rPs9
