When you’re trying to make weight for a prize fight, you can’t bring much carry-on.
That means the apparel must be kept to a minimum, which in turn means little is left to the imagination.
To make matters worse, once you step out onto the stage in your undergarments, you face a sea of photographers and videographers looking to get high quality shots for their publication to ensure maximum coverage of, what is essentially just some chap hitting the scales.
Riveting stuff.
Yet for some reason, weigh-ins, particularly for world title fights, are massive events. So beyond the media, you’ll find a small army of fans armed with camera phones ready to document the whole thing.
With this in mind, dudes need to make sure that they’re… eh, giving an accurate representation of themselves. (Don’t act like you don’t know what we’re talking about!) Photographs and videos are a pretty permanent evidence of a snapshot in time these days, so it’s never been as important to look your best.
This outtake from the BBC documentary series Fight Game: The McGuigans, shows that this thought did cross Carl Frampton’s mind ahead of his world title fight rematch against Leo Santa Cruz.

If Shane McGuigan’s reference went straight over your head, it’s from Sacha Baron Cohen’s 2002 comedy classic Ali G InDaHouse.
