Jack O'Toole

Floyd Mayweather’s bodyguard was reportedly targeted in a shooting outside of an Atlanta hotel in the early hours of Monday morning.

A man believed to be one of Mayweather’s bodyguards was travelling in one SUV of a three vehicle convoy when he was shot outside of the InterContinental Buckhead Hotel in Atlanta at around 2 a.m.

According to the Atlanta Police Dept., a car pulled up beside his vehicle and fired multiple shots.

The bodyguard was travelling in a convoy returning to the hotel from an Atlanta nightclub with TMZ Sports reporting that they believe that Floyd was in one of the SUVs that was targeted by the shooter.

Mayweather is understood not to have been injured in the attack, however, the Atlanta Constitution-Journal are reporting that all three of the vehicles quickly drove away from the scene and were followed temporarily.

The victim was treated for a gunshot wound to the lower leg and was treated and eventually released from Grady Memorial Hospital.

Atlanta police spokesman Donald Hannah confirmed to the ACJ that the shooting appeared to be a targeted attack.

“At this time, it appears that this was not a random shooting and the shooter was targeting the victim’s vehicle,” Hannah said.

“We’re not exactly sure what happened earlier in the evening that led to the shooting.”

Mayweather had been partying in Medusa nightclub, just over five kilometres away from the InterContinental Buckhead Hotel where the shooting occurred.
