Still pocket change compared to the “Fight of the Century”.
It appears as though it’s going to take a ginormous payday to entice Floyd Mayweather back into the ring.
The 49-0 pugilist vacated his belts following his unanimous decision win over Andre Berto in November 2015 and has since maintained that he has hung up his gloves for good. He explained to BBC that promoters have been throwing money at him in order to convince him to return to the ring, but to no avail.
“It’s been crazy numbers that’s been thrown at me of course, nine figures. You know, I’ve had money thrown at me from so many different countries… If I get the itch to come back, it really won’t be for the money but I’ll have to get paid, that’s why the nickname is Floyd “Money” Mayweather.”
“As of right now, I am out completely.”
Mayweather’s net worth is estimated to be around the $400 million mark, at least $220 million of which he earned from fighting Manny Pacquaio according to reports. Therefore it’s unlikely that a measly nine-figure purse will get him back into the ring. Plus he has that small matter of raising a family to deal with.
“Life is great. My family has a comfortable life from me going out there and taking chances and taking risks. That was the ultimate goal. My kids will be going to college real soon.”
“I am very happy that I was able to be a risk-taker. Roll the dice and take chances. Me being in the 12th grade, leaving school, leaving everything behind, leaving my family behind to go out there and do something that I love to do. It paid off in the long run.”
Sure he says that now, but if someone offers him the GDP of a small country to fight again, one would assume he have to consider trying to improve his record to 50-0. With that sort of cake, he could just buy his children a college.
