He may have to wait a little longer for his title shot, but Jamie Kavanagh is extremely grateful to have escaped the Regency hotel shooting with his life.
Kavanagh was due to headline the Clash of Clans event at the National Stadium on Saturday and was at the Regency hotel on Friday when the fatal shooting took place in which one man lost his life.
Three men dressed as members of the Garda ERU entered the Regency Hotel and opened fire with what witnesses claim were AK-47s at the official weigh-ins for the event. Emergency services arrived on the scene to find three men seriously injured. One of which was subsequently pronounced dead while the other two were removed to The Mater and Beaumont Hospitals.
Dublin boxer Kavanagh confirmed on Twitter that he was fortunate to escape the shooting unharmed.
Anyone asking I'm OK! Thanks you for asking. I was lucky today is all I can say…..
