“I think the June fight for Katie Taylor will probably be someone else.”
Eddie Hearn’s plans for next Katie Taylor fight are completely off the script, as everyone in the boxing world was sure that it would be the trilogy bout against Chantelle Cameron.
Cameron had beaten Taylor in their first fight at the Dublin 3Arena back in May last year, but the Irish fighter avenged her defeat in the same venue that November, making it one apiece.
With everything all square between the two brawlers, the only questioned that remained was when the third fight was going to be, but according to Hearn, it probably won’t be the next one, and even more surprising, it won’t even be in Dublin.
He told iFLTV: “We hadn’t had a fight confirmed for Katie Taylor for that date so that [Josh] Taylor v Catterall fight landed on that date.
“We’re working on some very big fights for Katie Taylor. There is a chance she may fight in America and yes, we are working away aggressively.
“I think the June fight for Katie Taylor will probably be someone else.”
Cameron had posted on social media back in January that the third fight would take place this May in the 3Arena again, but nobody from Matchroom or Taylor’s camp confirmed this.
A few weeks later the English fighter posted on social media again, this time claiming that the champion turned down her fight, despite the fact she offered to take even less money.
Despite Cameron’s grievances, Hearn is confident that just because the third fight isn’t happening next, doesn’t mean that it won’t happen in the future.
He continued: “I want to make the Katie Taylor fight (for Chantelle Cameron). Unquestionably Katie Taylor wants that fight and they must fight again before Katie Taylor exits this sport.
“She’s not [retiring] anytime soon, but who knows how long it’s going to be and Katie Taylor will 100% fight Chantelle Cameron again.”
