What a fight this would be.
When you talk about Carl Frampton you’re arguably talking about the best Irish fighter the country has seen this generation, he’s sensational.
The Belfast man hasn’t had the best few months though by his own standards, he suffered his first ever defeat at the hands of Leo Santa Cruz in January and missed weight in his homecoming fight to Andres Gutierrez only for the Mexican opponent to bizarrely slip in the shower and was forced to pull out of the bout completely.
Frampton then split with Cyclone promotions and trainer Shane McGuigan and is now training with Jamie Moore.
The future is uncertain for the 30-year-old, obviously, the fight that he wants is a rubber match with Leo Santa Cruz but Frampton toyed with the idea of facing off against Michael Conlan.
Conlan, also from Belfast, is undefeated after three professional fights and will fight in just under a fortnight’s time against Kenny Guzman in Arizona with his fifth fight expected to fight on the undercard of Vasyl Lomachenko versus Guillermo Rigondeaux.
The 2012 Olympic bronze medallist is looking to build up his professional record and this could culminate in a massive fight against Frampton.
‘The Jackal’ was speaking to Irish News and teased at meeting Conlan in the ring.
“At this stage of my career I’m ahead of Mick (Conlan) just because of what I’ve done, but Mick is an incredible fighter,” Frampton said.
“Who knows what’ll happen in a few years? There was a made-up beef between us in the press but me and Mick get on quite well. Business is business though and Mick is an incredible fighter, very skilful with a very good team and he could be a superstar.”
The fighter said that he wants Leo Santa Cruz as soon as possible but also said he wouldn’t “Wouldn’t turn his nose up” at a fight with Lee Selby in Windsor Park.
