Carl Frampton absolutely destroys Barry McGuigan on The Late Late Show

Former boxer Carl Frampton was a guest on The Late Late Show last night, and he took the opportunity to tear into his old mentor Barry McGuigan. The ex world champion was on the show to discuss his new autobiography that entails his story about a young man from Belfast who conquered the sport of boxing. Naturally, a lot of the book is about his very public fallout with McGuigan who promoted him for the majority of his career. McGuigan was a former world champion himself, and a hero to many in Ireland, so when the pair got together, it was something that everyone in the country could get behind. However, Frampton entrusted his entire career to his mentor and his family. Barry's son, Shane McGuigan was his trainer, while his other son Blaine, was his promotor. Towards the latter stages of his career, Frampton became aware of some financial misgivings with his fight purses, and it wasn't long before the two were locked in a court case. Show host Kielty, who wrote the foreword for Carl Frampton: My Autobiography, says when he got his copy, and read it, he was "pretty shocked by some of the stuff in the book". "You kind of pulled no punches in this book Carl," he said.

"I am very, very honest," Carl replied. "Obviously I am a pundit now and people compliment me on my honesty. I was honest in the book and pulled no punches.

"Obviously there was a pretty high profile court case with my former manager.

"It was bliss at the start and there was genuine love and friendship. Barry went as far as calling me the fourth son at times. He was a man that I looked up to so much. It was a shame that it all happened. "I understand that Barry is a hero to many people. He was a hero to me. But if you read this book, and still think he is a hero, you need to give your head a wobble.

"What I will say about Barry, is that he is so knowledgeable about boxing. He guided my career really well. "Look, it was pretty sour in the end. It was a shame but this is what happens in boxing. It is the same old story, you hear time and time again. "It will continue to happen in this sport because it's a money making business and it was a shame."
