Apology to Michael Conlan

SportsJOE

On 28 May 2016 we published a story about the threat to the sport of boxing’s participation in the Rio Olympic Games due to failure of the AIBA, the international governing body of boxing, to meet certain World Anti-Doping guidelines.

We illustrated this story with a photograph of Ireland’s Olympic medallist boxer, Michael Conlan.

The headline on the story may have inadvertently conveyed the impression that Michael Conlan was in some way associated with ‘drug test revelations’ referred to in the headline to the story. We accept absolutely that this is not the case and confirm it was never our intention to convey that impression.

We apologise sincerely to Michael for the distress our headline caused him and those close to him. SportsJOE.ie is a committed supporter of Michael Conlan and we wish him every success at the Olympics in Rio in August.
