Andy Lee is a World Champion at last

Limerick man's right hook stuns Korobov in Middleweight decider

Kevin McGillicuddy

This is the best Christmas present Irish sports fans could have got as one of the country’s most hard on luck fighters finally gets his reward.

Andy Lee secured the WBO Middleweight title just after 4am after his fight with Matt Korobov was stopped in the 6th round.

The Limerick man unleashed a devastating right hook and then landed 18 successive punches to secure the belt.

Here’s the moment the Russian was stunned into submission:

Korobov had shaded the very tense and cagey opening rounds, landing some decent punches but never getting close enough to do serious damage to Lee.

The Irishman was holding that infamous right hook in reserve and when it landed it was contest over for the Russian.

Andy spoke on Box Nation after the fight:

The Gaelic Grounds or Thomond park should battle it out to host Andy’s homecoming fight.
