An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.
It’s rare that a fighter gets his hand raised and a belt wrapped around his waist after being knocked face-first into the canvas. However, that’s exactly what happened during the WBA super middleweight title fight on Saturday.
Andre Dirrell was crowned the new interim king after his opponent, Jose Uzcategui, was disqualified for knocking him out a split-second after the eighth-round bell had sounded.
Uzcategui was actually up on the judges’ scorecards when he delivered the coup de grace, so that one move cost him the fight, the belt, but at the very least, he was spared being the villain of the night.
That accolade undoubtedly goes to Dirrel’s uncle, Leon Lawson.

The disqualification seems so insignificant in the grand scheme of the night, as Lawson’s actions completely overshadowed everything.
Although his nephew won the fight, he entered into the ring after it was over and delivered a sickening sucker punch to Uzcategui that landed straight to the chin of the pugilist.
According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, Lawson, “is wanted by cops and they don’t know where he is.”
