Two serious opponents lined up

Amir Khan’s next fight is already in the works…if he can upset the odds and defeat Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

Promoter Tom Loeffler claims Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin awaits the winner of the middleweight title bout, and says written contracts are already in place.

Khan was a surprise choice to take on Canelo in May, with the Mexican ranked by BoxRec as the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

Golovkin, who takes on Dominic Wade in California in March, is ranked fourth behind Tyson Fury and Sergey Kovalev, though some consider him on Canelo’s level.

Kazakh fighter GGG is among the best punchers on the circuit, holding a record of 34-0-0 with 31 of those victories coming by knockout.

There was plenty of talk that the 33-year-old would take on Billy Joe Saunders following the Wade bout, but it now seems as though that was wide of the mark.
